Turkey in a Bread Basket Recipe
Ingredients:
4 strips of bacon; fried to a crisp then crushed
2 & 1/2 c of turkey cutlets; cooked
1 c of milk
1/8 tsp of sage powder
1/8 tsp of pepper
1/2 tsp of salt
2 Tbsps of flour (all purpose)
2 Tbsps of butter
4 ozs of mushrooms; sliced
1 pc of onion (medium); thinly sliced
8 ozs of broccoli
1&1/2 lbs of loaf
1/2 c of butter
1 clove of garlic
Instructions:
Make the bread-basket. Slice off the florets of the broccoli then set it aside. Slice the stalk to about an inch thick. Steam the stalks for about five minutes then add in the florets. Steam five minutes more.
Saute mushrooms and onion in butter ’till onions run clear. Add the flour, pepper, sage and salt. Stir and cook ’till it bubbles. Turn off heat then add the milk.
Turn heat on again then heat ’till it is boiling, making sure you stir continuously. Add the broccoli with turkey cutlets and cook for five minutes. Mix in the bacon bits then scoop the turkey mix inside your bread-basket.
To prepare the bread-basket, slice off crusts from your bread. Create a crater by scooping the middle of the loaf, leaving much at its base to support the contents later.
Mix together garlic and butter then use this to brush every side of the loaf. Bake the bread until sides have been toasted. Set it aside to cool.
